North End Studio
Adaptive Re-Use of Historic Police Station
San Francisco, CA

The North End Police Station was built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. The new owners sought to restore this San Francisco landmark to its original grandeur, reversing years of neglect and misguided remodeling. Interior spaces were adapted from their public functions to those of an artist’s residence and studio, while preserving the building’s original architectural integrity. A detached garage at the rear of the lot was remodeled, which included restoration of the missing cupola.
