Firm Profile
David S. Gast and Associates is a service-oriented
architectural practice, founded in San Francisco in 1980. We specialize
in custom residential projects, both renovations and new construction,
and in moderate-scale commercial and educational buildings. We take
pride in the close working relationships we develop with our clients,
collaborating to produce projects which respond to the client’s
desires, budget and schedule, while maintaining architectural design
excellence.
We enjoy designing a project in the style and
language most appropriate to the site and the client’s program,
whether modern or within a more traditional or historical framework.
We are committed to fine craftsmanship and sound detailing, and
emphasize creating a team approach to the construction process to
achieve these goals. Our firm has developed long-term relationships
with many of the contractors, craftspeople and consultants involved
in our projects, and this, along with our principal and staff’s
prior experience as carpenters, furniture-makers and licensed general
contractors, helps immeasurably in producing superior results.
An important factor in any project is negotiating
through the complexities of the approvals process. Having practiced
in the Bay Area for decades, we know how to work effectively with
regulatory agencies to negotiate code interpretations and obtain
project approvals. We have represented our clients successfully
before commissions, design review panels and appeal boards.
